Welcome to our amazing school

I am passionate about working collaboratively with students, parents and the wider community to develop excellence and success and improve the life chances of young people.

I believe that we can achieve more together and our school values of kindness, courage and resilience are the foundation of everything we do. Staff at the school work towards offering students a world-class curriculum and world-class teaching every day. We believe that every student has the right to learn without barriers, and I am delighted that students are telling us how calm and focused their lessons are.

My aspirations for students and staff are sky high because at Liskeard School we know that having high standards and expectations contributes to everyone’s success. I am so pleased to see how the hard work and commitment of students and staff has led to some of the school’s best ever GCSE results in 2023 and 2024. I am ambitious for students to make excellent progress and am ambitious to create a distinctively focused and positive learning environment in every classroom. I want our students to succeed academically, but also in their personal growth and development and as positive, empowered citizens. This is reflected in the fact that in this current academic year 24/25, we have over 400 students actively involved in student council or student leadership opportunities.

We aim for excellence in pastoral support, and we want every student to thrive and participate.

Our aim is to provide an excellent education so we can all live responsible and successful lives. I believe that every young person has the capacity to do amazing things – it’s our collective responsibility to help them believe this, too.

Thank you for your support as we grow and work together.

Dan Wendon, Headteacher

Welcome

Ethos and Values

Ethos and Values

Liskeard School and Community College is a co-educational 11-18 school of over 1000 students. Our fully comprehensive school incorporates our sixth form as well as our Area Resource Base for students with more complex needs. We are committed to serving the community of Liskeard and its surrounding areas.

We aspire to academic excellence with inclusivity for all and offer students the opportunity to practice the daily habits and routines that they need to ensure that they learn effectively, knowing and remembering more over time. We believe in supporting each individual to excel.

We aspire to provide a world class curriculum which offers a slice of ‘the best that has been thought and said.’ With expert teaching and support, we aim to support deep thinking and durable learning for all students through a broad curriculum offer.

Students at the school have access to a range of extra-curricular activities including Duke of Edinburgh, residential trips and visits and a range of regular clubs and events.

Our expectations for student behaviour and attitudes are exceptionally high and we work with all students to develop a shared understanding of skills and attitudes for successful futures. We encourage student leadership at all levels of the school and our student leaders play an active and growing role in the life of the school. Based on our core values of courage, kindness and resilience, our PSHE and character curriculum supports students to develop their character and become productive citizens who make a positive contribution to the world.

We know that we can achieve more together and we take great pride in our high standards and in our ultimate aim to provide an excellent education so that we can all live successful and responsible lives

South East Cornwall Multi Academy Regional Trust

Liskeard School and Community College is a member of SMART (South East Cornwall Multi Academy Regional Trust), along with two other secondary schools and three primaries. At Liskeard, we believe in ‘achieving more together’ - the ethos and culture we have is based on the view that we all benefit through co-operation and by supporting each other. The joining of SMART and forming a close partnership with other like-minded local schools, therefore, was the obvious and most natural thing to do. We are genuinely delighted about the opportunities that being part of SMART has brought to the staff, the students and the wonderful community of Liskeard and look forward to how we can develop this further.
